| FROM THE INTRODUCTION:
You’ve recently found out that your beloved dog is going blind. So, what do you do now?
As the owner of a blind dog, that same question went through my mind when I learned the diagnosis. During the many years I’ve lived with Sage, my blind Springer Spaniel, I’ve learned many valuable lessons, information I’d like to share with you.
First, keep in mind is that your dog is losing ONE of its senses, and though we humans think eyesight is one of the most important senses to have, keep in mind that dogs have two other primary senses: hearing and smell. These senses are equally, if not more important to a dog, and those senses will become more acute in your blind dog, thereby helping your dog compensate for its lack of sight. Next, help your blind dog accommodate its loss of vision through the use of sound for training, playing and navigating.
In this report, I will give you some important ideas to help your blind dog increase its ability despite its disability, and therefore gain confidence while coping with blindness.
